royal footmen to boycott polls:
Even as election campaigns are picking up in Narashimaraja
constituency, residents of Jayachamarajendra Nagar, who
once served the erstwhile royal family, have decided to
boycott the polls. The residents, who have managed to
build small houses in a piece of land donated by the
Maharaja family at the foot of the Chamundi Hills, have no
basic facilities like drinking water, streetlights and
underground drainage facilities.

P V Nanjaraj Urs, a former lecturer at the Mysore
University has threatened to file a complaint with the
Lokayukta on the all eged irregularities at the Audio
Visual Research Centre (AVRC), Mysore. Speaking to
mediapersons Urs said the Audio Visual Research Centre,
Mysore, has violated norms by selling valuable video
footage to certain agencies at premium rates.
Minister
challenges Opp to debate on finances:
Information Technology Minister B K Chandrashekar extended
an open invitation to former finance minister Siddaramiah
and BJP MLA A Ramadas to a public debate on the finances
of the State. He criticised the JD (S) and BJP leaders for
making baseless charges that the State Government had
become bankrupt, just to mislead the public. Speaking to
presspersons here, he claimed that the finances of the
State were not in a dismal condition and that Karnataka`s
is the first government to prepare a medium-term fiscal
plan and policies of the good governance sought by the
World Bank.
Mysore
varsity, E-Cosmos join hands to provide advanced training
in IT:
The Mysore University has signed an MOU with E-cosmos (ECTL)
to provide training for engineering students,
professionals and the teaching faculty specialising in
systems technology. Vice-Chancellor S Nagarahole Hegde
said the programme would help pomote industry institute
relations. The programme would ensure mutual co-operation
and benefit both parties, he claimed.
Gopalakrishna
temple resurfaces:
Farmers worried, the pious happy over receding level of
KRS. As the water level at the Krishnaraja Sagar Dam
receded causing anxiety to the farming community, a temple
surfaced from below the dam, much to the happiness of the
believers. Devotees from villages around Krishnaraja Sagar
Dam have been making a beeline to offer prayers at the
900-year-old Gopalakrishna temple, which emerged out of
the dam bed. The emergence of the intricately carved
Chalukyan style temple once the water level of the dam
recedes has become a regular feature.
KRRS
activists condemn hike in power tariff:
Activists of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha laid siege
to the KPTCL offices in Kollegal protesting against the
proposed power tariff hike and harasment by KPTCL
officials. District Convenor of the KRRS, Nanje Gowda,
criticised the Government for hiking power tariff, which
was against the interests of farmers and the common man.
Teachers
unhappy over administrative changes:
The Mysore University Private College Teachers Association
has threatened to launch a dharna on Saturday against the
changes introduced by the varsity administration.
President of the Associatioon Prabhuswamy said the
University has brought in unwanted changes creating
atmosphere of mistrust and fear among students. The
Association would also suspend valuation work on Saturday
in protest against the policies of the university, he
claimed.

men stage dharna with empty pots:
Janata Dal(s) activists staged a dharna, by carrying empty
pots, in fromt of the City Corporation office demanding
drinking water in the residential areas of the City. The
activists gheraoed Mayor B K Prakash and demanded a
soloution to the drinking water problem faced by the
citizens of Mysore.
