Independents to play key role in Mysore Corporation:
City corporation polls threw up hung Corporation Council with no party registering an absolute majority and independents poised to play a major role in capturing power. Congress bagged 23 seats and emerged the largest party. Janata Dal (S), which was in power, bagged 18 seats while BJP was placed in third position with 16 seats. However, the major losers in the poll were the JD (U) and the Samata Party. Both the parties failed to open their account.

Samples to be tested to ascertain cause of fish death:
Deputy Commissioner B.Basavaraju, environment officials and Corporation Commissioner Hiremaniyavar inspected the Enneholekere Lake, where over one lakh fish died. It may be recalled that around Rs. 35 lakh worth fish were killed within 24 hours at the lake, which raised serious concern on health risk. Health department officials have also taken note of the situation.

Congress unhappy over JD (S) tie:
The City Congress seems to be sharply divided over the issue of supporting the Janata Dal (S) to capture power in the corporation. With the Corporation polls giving a hung council, the congress camp, which is the single largest party, has been sending feelers to the Janata Dal (S) for outside support.

    Committee seeks re-exams for KAS:
The Rural Quota Action Committee has urged the State Government to re-conduct the Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) examination. It welcomed the Government's decision to squash the results of KAS probationary officers so that recruitment could be carried out on rural weight quota. They threatened to launch a statewide stir if the Government failed to meet the demand.

Rift in congress; leaders hold parallel meet:
Differences in the congress have again come to the fore with local leaders holding parallel meetings and trading charges against each other. The rift has widened between the supporters of MP Srikantadutta Narasimharaja Wodeyar, district in-charge minister Vishwanath and city congress president D.Made Gowda.

Assault on JD (S) worker: Mob attacks ACP's office:
Janata Dal (S) leaders mobbed the Assistant Commissioner of Police's office, condemning the delay in apprehending Congress workers who were involved in the assault on JD (S) workers in the city. Former Mayors Narayana, Arif Hussain and Ananthu charged the police with playing into the hands of the Congress.
