Dal
flays Cong attempt to 'defame' J H Patel:
The Janata Dal (Secular) leaders have flayed district
in-charge Minister H Vishwanath for making
"defamatory statements" against former Chief
Minister J H Patel and the Janata parivar leaders.
Speaking to media persons Janata Dal (Secular) City
president Ananthu said the canards spread by Congress
leaders were due to frustration caused by large scale
following enjoyed by Siddaramiah in the Narashimaraja
constituency. He said J H Patel, a veteran socialist was
the only Chief Minister who worked for the welfare of the
oppressed class and the poor cutting across caste lines.
Deve
Gowda questions secular credentials of Congress, BJP:
Congress has failed to check destruction of Mosques in
Coorg while the BJP presided over "Shila Dhaan"
for a temple in Ayodhya, said H D Deve Gowda shooting down
their secular claims. Speaking to mediapersons here on
Tuesday Gowda said by fielding a former BJP legislator,
the Janata Parivar has "fielded a reformed BJP man
who was disgusted about the party ideology".
Mysore
varsity blamed for delaying results:
Students of Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering
have condemned the Mysore University for their delay in
announcing examination results. SJCE, Students Council,
Vice President T Kalicharan said the results of the
engineering examinations conducted by the Mysore
University in February April 2002, have not been announced
as yet. The University is supposed to announce the results
within 50 days after conducting an examination.
Congress
has secret deal with BJP-Dal:
The Janata Dal(s) has charged the Congress of entering
into a secret understanding with the Bharatiya Janata
Party to ensure the victory of the Congress during the
narasimharaja Assembly by-poll. Siddaramiah, leader of the
Janata Dal (S), told mediapersons on Sunday that Congress
leaders have admitted, "The nearest contestant was
the BJP. The Janata Dal is nowhere in the fray".
Father
joins JD (S), son with Cong:
R Q Arshad, a former Congress leader and party aspirant,
joined the party in the presence of Siddaramiah on Sunday.
Arshad who had served the Congress for 25 years claimed
that he had deserted the party over ideological
differences. He further charged the Congress of keeping
him in the dark till the last moment on the status of his
candidature for the Assembly polls. Meanwhile, Rizwan
Arshad, son of R Q Arshad, has said that he would remain
with the Congress and work for the party. Youth Congress
leader Rizwan said he has resolved to work for Congress
candidate Tanvir Sait during ensuing Narasimharaja
Assembly by-polls.
3,000-yr-old
megalithic graves discovered:
A senior lecturer of Ancient History and Archaeology has
discovered a 3,000-year-old grave on the banks of the
River Cauvery in Periyapatna taluk. Lecturer Nagarahole
Havaliah said ancient graves were known as
"megalithic stone circles". The field, he said,
is rich as it contains 200 stone circles.
Promises
galore to woo citizens:
NR by-poll candidates promise free and fair elections.
Candidates of all political parties in the fray for the
Narasimharaja Assembly bypoll have pledged to ensure free
and fair elections. The Mysore District Journalists
Association here organised a joint press meet, which was
addressed by all the candidates. Congress candidate
Tanveer Sait, B P Manjunath (BJP) E Maruthi Rao Pawar
(Janata Dal), Shafik Ahmed (CPI) and Taheer Ali
(independent) jointly announced that they would abide by
the election code of conduct. The candidates opposed
parties seeking votes on caste and religious lines.
Tibetans
take out rally against Chinese:
Tibetans took out a rally in Mysore on Thursday to
commemorate the 1951 "17-Point Declaration"
which was imposed on them by the Chinese Government. The
rally, taken out by members of the Regional Tibetan
Women's Association and regional Tibetan Youth Congress,
was taken out through the main thoroughfares of the City.
They later submitted a memorandum addressed to Kofi Annan,
UN Secretary general, to the Deputy Commissioner.
