Brigand threatens to
kill nagappa if Mani is not sent:
Tamil nationalist leader nedumaran and Tamil activist
kolathur Mani still enjoys the trust of forest brigand
veerappan who has only scorn for the Karnataka police.
This truth was revealed in a 35-minute tape, which the
elusive brigand had sent to the family members of abduct
former minister nagappa and chief minister S.M.Krishna.
The cassette has veerappan-rating nedumaran as the most
mature politician who belongs to the stature of Anna Durai.
Why did Mysore ADB
model fail?
It was the summer of 1998. The city authorities decided to
implement the Asian Development Fund (ADB) funded works

CM should resign, says
Made Gowda:
Chief minister S.M.Krishna should resign as a mark of
protest against the Supreme Court judgement directing the
state to release water to Tamilnadu, said former Member of
Parliament Madegowda. He told media persons after an
all-party meeting that almost all chief ministers in the
past had released water to Tamilnadu, sacrificing the
interest of the farmer of the state, so as to guard their
chief minister's GADDI.
Lawyers boycott court
for sixth day:
For the sixth day in a row, advocates boycotted the city
court on Wednesday, in protest against the recent
amendment to the legal service authority act and civil
procedures code. A meeting held on Monday evening by the
Mysore Bar association unanimously decided to abstain from
court proceedings till September 7.
Dasara tableaux to be
spiced with folk themes this year:
A preparatory meeting on the dasara celebrations was held
at the city police commissioner's office on Monday.
Members at the meeting, which was presided over by
district in, charge minister H Viswanath who directed the
departments concerned to organize the festival without
creating unnecessary chaos. At the same time, it should be
held in a grand way, he said.
STF men join hands
with forest officials:
The STF authorities have intensified combing operations;
even deploying additional police personnel in civil dress,
in dodda sampige and honna metti to keep close watch on
the Tamilnadu forests. The STF has also has also sought
the help of forest officials in tracking veerappan.
Verdict on cauvery:
Government urged to file revised plea The Cauvery
Hitharakshana Samithi and representatives of opposition
parties have urged the State Government not to release
Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. They have also urged the
Government to file a revised petition before the Supreme
Court. The Supreme Court, after hearing TN Government's
plea, requesting the court to direct Karnataka to release
Cauvery water, has directed the State to release 1. 2 TMC
of water per day.
Advice on idol
immersion:
Parisara Prathistana and Janavijnana Vedhike have appealed
to citizens to stop polluting lakes and rivers by
immersing Ganesha idols in buckets filled with water.
Conducting a "Shramadaan" camp in Kukkarahalli
Lake, these organizations urged Youth Association to
celebrate Ganesha Chathurthi in an eco-friendly manner by
immersing the huge Ganesha idols in bigger vessels.
According to a press release, the idols, when immersed,
release toxic substances resulting in the pollution of the
river or lake.
Dalits stage dharna:
Members of the Dalit Sangharsha Samithi here staged a
dharna before the Zillah Panchayath Office demanding
relaxation of rules. They also demanded admissions to
Dalit students in hostels run by the social welfare
department, Backward classes and Minorities departments.
