Abdul
Kareem, father of slain police officer Shakeel Ahamad, welcomed
the arrest of former Tamil Nadu CM M. Karunanidhi and demanded
the immediate arrest of Nedumaran and journalist R. R. Gopal
for their contacts with forest brigand Veerappan. He said
the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka Governments should arrest and
hand-over Nedumaran and Gopal to CBI, which would help to
nab Veerappan.
He
termed Nedumaran and R. R. Gopal as Veerappan informants
and alleged that Veerappan had even travelled in former
CM Karunanidhi's car. Veerappan has remained elusive with
the support from the previous Government. He said a few
vested interests in TN Government even misled the Karnataka
STF and also restricted them from operating in areas of
Veerappan hideouts to protect the brigand in the dense forest.
He said the appointment of IGP Kempaiah, as Karnataka STF
Chief will prove futile in nabbing Veerappan.
Kareem alleged that Kempiah is not interested in nabbing
Veerappan, who is at bay for more than a decade. Why did
Kempiah failed to show is willingness to join the STF, when
he was Mysore Police Commissioner? he asked . He said he
would surrender his pension, if the team headed by Kempiah
nab Veerappan. He said the Karnataka Government should appoint
retired DG. L. Revannasiddiah as head of Karnataka STF and
wanted honest and efficient officers like A.R. Infant and
others to join the combing operations to nab the dreaded
poacher.
Referring to the demand of amnesty to Veerappan by Nedumaran
and others, he said Veerappan cannot be given amnesty as
he was responsible for 100 of killing and pouching. How
can Veerappan be compared with former M.P. Poolan Devi,
who was harassed and victimized in many cases. Referring
to PMK leader and Jayalaitha's ally Ramada's efforts to
get Veerappan amnesty, kareem said he has sent a phonogram
urging Jayalalitha to sever ties with PMK leader.
Kareem said he was writing books on the Government involved
in operations of Veerappan in the past 10 years and on his
son sub-inspector Shakeel Ahmed, who fell prey to Veerappan's
bullets. Referring to the release of the book "The Untold
Story" on Veerappan, he alleged that the book was based
on some documents and few vital information and threatened
that he would sue the author, Sunad. He said the book has
been written to gain publicity and to earn money.
