Memoirs
of Manja
Here is a new series for the
visitors of OurKarnataka.Com (OKC). Here is a person from
Mysore, who was unfortunate enough to get into the activities
of the underworld, suffer from it and still fortunate enough
to come out of it. As per his request, we have re-christened
him to keep him out of trouble! Just to let you know, he has
now gotten his bachelor and masters degree from the Open University.
He is also getting trained as a web developer. He is determined
to make something for himself. Our aim here is not to glorify
his past deeds, but to tell you from his perspective. This
is not fiction or a movie; this is the bare truth. Something
for you to ponder about.
Part
8
When
we came to Mysore it was a festive atmosphere of Shivaratri.
Malli, Philips, Balu, and myself stayed in the Highway lodge.
Balu left us stating that he will bring some money. He had
a lot of links in Mysore. Whether he had gone for a roll call
or for something else I don't know.
I
went to B.R. Hills along with Suresh and got 3 kgs of ganja
there. As we had a local order in Goa I sent Suresh to Goa.
I came back to lodge. From there along with Malli bhai I went
to Bangalore. It was time for Malli to surrender before the
court. We selected a good advocate. I had no other work to
do. On the day of surrender I bade a goodbye and went to my
cottage in Goa. It was locked!!!
While
I enquired I came to know that they have left the cottage.
But I got a slip, which had the new address of Suresh. It
was in the red light area. He had taken a small house for
rent and was staying along with Sukanya. Later on this itself
became a reason for big scandal. Sukanya after leaving that
red light area had stayed with us at Panjim but she went back
to the same area, which some goonds came to know. It gave
a chance for small skirmishes. I met Suresh in his new house
and questioned him about what made him to select a house in
such a dirty area. Whether his senses are well within his
control or not I asked.
"What
shall I do? I don't have enough money to meet the expenses.
I am paying only Rs 200 for this house, which has all convenience.
I thought this is better" he replied. Even though the location
was not good the house was big enough. Suddenly the names
of Subhash and Carole flashed to my mind. "Suresh, what about
Subhash and Carole? Where are they put up at present ?". "Subhash
has reopened his shop. No problem for him. But I asked Carole
to come and stay with me. She has got some money from her
mother and at present she is settled in Anjana Beech. She
has started her old business. Please go and bring her".
It
took 20 days for me to come back to Goa from Mysore. Within
these 20 days lot of changes have taken place, which I could
never believe. After sipping a cup of tea given by Sukanya
I hired a bike and proceeded to the place, where Carole was
staying. Lot of emotions flashed to my mind. It did not become
difficult for me to find out Carole at Anjana Beech. I knew
her old spots very well.
When I saw her I could not control my emotions. I wept. She
was my good friend. She came with open arm and embraced me
as soon as she saw me. She started weeping. "Why are you spending
your time alone? Did Suresh created any problem to you? Are
you not interested in going to that area ?". At a time I put
a lot of questions to her. "Manju, I could not go well with
your people. Please don't think otherwise. I will never believe
anybody except you. If at all I live I shall live with you
only. If not, let me live alone. I have got Rs 50,000 from
my father. You don't worry. I can earn Rs 1000-1500 through
my tattoo business. Till your business prospers I will take
care of you. Why don't you come and stay with me" she questioned
me.
Her kindness and confidence she had on me never allowed me
to go out. Along with her I took a house for rent of Rs 700
per month. Even though Subhash and Suresh and myself were
living apart still we were partners in our business. Subhash
started his shop again. He started selling ganja in his shop
openly along with some sexy books. He started his cloth business
also getting the material from Bombay at a cheaper rate. He
started all sorts of sundry business. He started sending messages
to his relatives in Udupi to look out for a girl for him for
matrimonial alliance.
The old Subhash was no more and had changed himself into a
new Subhash.
