3.3 The God (Krishna) Said: (Bhagavan = the
possessor of all opulence)
O Arjuna, In this World, I have declared two kinds of faith: a
"SankhyaYogi", where one proceeds in the direction of Knowledge and a
"KarmaYogi", where one proceeds in the direction of karma (Actions);
both resulting in the union of individual consciousness and the ultimate
consciousness.

3.4 One can not get freedom from
"actions" without performing the prescribed duties (in Vedic
Writings). Nor can he attain freedom by just renouncing actions.

3.5 One can not remain without performing any
action (Karma), not even for a moment. For, all the living entities are
helplessly forced to action by qualities of material nature.

(five) sense-organs, remains thinking about the objects of the senses, that
foolish being is a hypocrite.

3.7 O Arjuna, But anyone who controls the sense
organs and the resulting actions with his mind (will power), and remains
unattached.. he is the superior one and undertakes the Yoga of action (of
uniting the individual consciousness and the ultimate consciousness.)

3.8 Hence, you should perform the
"Actions" prescribed in the Vedic writings because "actions"
are better than "inactions" and by renouncing activities, you can not
even maintain your body.

3.9 O the Son of Kunti (Arjuna), this whole
world is bound by actions except for those actions which are performed for the
sake of sacrifice unto the Lord. So, perform your duties and actions, without
attachment, for the purpose of sacrifice.

3.14 Living entities are evolved from food;
food depends on rainfall. Rainfall occurs from the sacrifice unto the supreme
Lord. This sacrifice is based on performing actions (Karma) as per Vedic
writings.

3.15 One should understand that the actions
have their origin in Vedic Scriptures; Vedic scriptures originated directly from
the the God. Therefore, the all-pervading ultimate truth is always
present in performing sacrifices.

perform the actions (Karma) as prescribed in the Vedic scriptures, that being

3.18 In this world, that great soul (explained
in the previous shloka) gains no purpose by performing actions nor incurs
any sin for not performing any actions. He never needs to depend on anyone.

prescribed actions perfectly, without any attachment or interruption. By
performing prescribed actions (Karma), one achieves the highest good.

3.20 By Performing the actions (prescribed by
the Vedic scriptures), King Janaka (Father of Sita, hence she is also called
Janaki) and other wise men reached perfection. In similar way, you too should
perform for the sake of the benefit to the entire world.
