Islam
means peace, peace derived by the submission to the will
of God. This was the religion, which was preached by all
the prophets. Prejudices, interpretation and convenience
changed this one religion to many 'isms'. Prophet, the last
amongst the last messengers, lifted veils from the prejudices,
corrected the misinterpretations, criticized the conveniences
and presented the religion in its pristine.
Ever
since then millions of scholars have worked hard and made
great sacrifices to keep the religion in its original form.
Abu Bakar (RA) fought the Muslims who refused to pay the
poor dues. Hussain (RA), the grand son of prophet, sacrificed
his life to see that corruption and nepotism did not creep
in to the political system of Islam. Scores of scholars
and stalwarts of Islamic renaissances suffered greatly for
defying the rules who were corrupting the letter and sprit
of Islam. Even today the torchbearers of true Islam suffer
at the
hands of both the secular leaders and the corrupt religious
scholars.
No
group of people have suffered so much of hardships
for their convictions as the Muslims. The list of countries
in which Muslim suffer is endless and includes the countries
where the Muslims are in majority and the ruler is a 'Muslim'.
There is not a single Muslim country where internal and
external forces are not active to destabilize and impoverish
Muslims.
Prophet
said, that even if you are two, you should make one amongst
you, your leader. Unfortunately one and half billion Muslims
are without a leader for almost a century. At local, national,
international level, several groups vie with one another for
leadership instead of forging an alliance for a common cause.
Despite this division, and dissension amongst the ranks
of Muslims, and persecution of Muslims all over the world,
Islam is just not surviving but growing. It is a miracle
and a testimony to the truth of its message and its rationality.
The
Actual Problem:
Islam is not just a sermon on virtues for a virtues living.
It is an inspiration for establishment of a virtues society.
A person who claims his allegiance to the faith of Islam
should support virtue and renounce evil with his hand, or
with his words or in the least with his conviction. This
is an important injunction of Islam because evil does not
give way to virtue in any society, unless virtues struggle
to establish itself. Social pressure and moral issues is
an anathema to the societies founded on liberalism. For
this reason Islam is the most maligned religion in the world.
At a time when the Muslim Governments have abandoned the
role of establishing virtue and curbing vices, individuals
and groups have taken up this responsibility, which is causing
some problems.
A
society so intensely dislikes strong moral and religious
convictions in a society where commitment to a woman in
marriage is difficult, but flirting in transient and irresponsible
homo sexual and hetero sexual relations is easy and even
commendable. It is a society where media is left free to
spread a culture of immortality and violence in the name
of "freedom of expression", and the society is left alone
to suffer its evil consequences without any power to curb it.
Liberalism
has made morality and subjective feeling, and the individuals
are left free to decide their own moral code. The resulting
moral anarchy is a big treat which has destroyed all human
relations and social institutions. Condoms and medicines,
and a plethora of laws, are all ineffective in restoring
serenity to individuals and stability to societies.
We
live in a society where trade, exorbitant return
for goods and services, bribes, usury etc. generates so
much of virtual wealth that the hard working people with
their meager incomes, find it impossible to enjoy even the
basic goods they produce, are the services which the intellectuals
offer. As a result hard working people are disillusioned
and loosing their will to work, plunging the world into
poverty and misery. Condition of the world as it exists
today, conclusively proves that charity and welfare do not
compensate for the ugly consequences of greed and exploitation,
and are some poor substitutes to economic justice.
