To Radiocity FM with love and disgust.

A Few days ago I had written an article regarding the anti-Kannada bias by Radiocity FM, an FM station of Bangalore.

Of late, they have started broadcasting Kannada songs. This is done in the evening during the weekdays in a programme called Hotair. They broadcast some 4-5 songs, that's it. This is really bad. The issue here is not just about Kannada songs but it should be seen in a broader sense. It is about the bias against Kannada by Radiocity. When a full 4 hours can be dedicated for Old Hindi songs(11 O'clock show), 15 hours for English music and the rest for new Hindi music, is it impossible to dedicate 2-3 hours for the local language. This is my point.

It is not impossible. Not even tough. Then why is it not being done. Personally, I do not have anything against Radiocity. I simply Love it. I start off my day with the with Rohit and Vera (Breakfast show). I love Hotair. But, being a rational citizen and a responsible listener, it pains
me to see the absence of Kannada in Radiocity and I find it disgusting. Radiocity has been a new revolution. Yes, I accept it. I have drastically reduced my time in front of the TV after Radiocity has come to Bangalore. But, the issue of Kannada hurts me.

As I told you the issue is not about Kannada music alone. The issue is against the bias. Kannada artists cannot find a place at all. There are lot of brilliant people in Kannada art, Cinema, Theatre, painting, Creative art and what not. Then, why the bias. Radiocity has be run professionally without favors of any kind to anyone. Everything necessary to make Radiocity popular and more popular must done.

The local Kannada art industry has got a golden chance to reach out to people who had somehow missed the local link. The art may be Theatre (stalwarts like Sathyu, BV Karanth, Girish Karnad, Nagesh to name a few), Cinema (Upendra, Ramesh, TN Seetharam and lots more), fine arts (Hadapad and lots more), Literature(Kannada have 7 Gnyanapeeta awards). Radiocity can serve as the ideal medium to reach out to people who have not yet had a
taste of the wonderful world of Kannada art. Have they ever bothered to interview TN Seetharam or Sheshadri whose films won National awards this year ?

Even if we forget the people who do not know Kannada, people who know Kannada itself form a big audience. Then why the bias.

I fully understand that Radiocity is a private channel and they cannot afford to deliver anything other than popularity and big listenership. Then why is Kannada not being given its due. I am very sure that inclusion of Kannada will greatly increase the popularity. It will touch lot more people and will result in a symbiotic relationship with the Kannada artists.

I have presented the issue from lot of different perspectives. I sincerely hope that people who matter in Radiocity take note of this and use their sense.
